News and Articles : New Worker’s Compensation Board Contract for Chiropractors in Nova Scotia

Effective January 1st 2013, the Nova Scotia College of Chiropractors reached an agreement with the Worker's Compensation Board (WCB) on a new service provider contract, which now allows WCB-approved Chiropractors in Nova Scotia to become full participants in the Tier 1 service/return-to-work model.

This means chiropractors will be able to provide functional abilities assessments and determine if the worker’s physical abilities match the demands of their pre-injury job, or whether they can perform other transitional duties available in the workplace.

Just like physiotherapists, chiropractors will share the results of the functional abilities assessment with employers, family physicians and the WCB. This contract enhancement is good news for injured workers, who will have more options about where they can seek care for their work-related injuries.

Do you ever have those moments when you pause despite the busy-ness of life and realize how grateful you are? Chad and I had the opportunity to do just that over the holidays; we were enjoying time with our new family, reflecting on the year just past and setting goals for the year about to embark. We wanted to share with you a few words of gratitude because without our loyal patients and your continued support, our journey wouldn’t be possible.

As our family grows and our connections to our community deepen, and we meet more and more families that thank us for helping in them in some way; we feel blessed. We are fortunate to be a part of a profession that allows us to promote natural and safe healthcare that improves the quality of people’s lives. We have the privilege of hearing your concerns and being chosen to be a part of your journey to change and improve.

The quest of an alternative health care practitioner (which sadly to say, Chiropractors are still considered alternative) is not always easy. There are nay-sayers that believe that health can only be achieved via chemical or surgical means, there are those who believe that their private health care insurance has their best interest at heart ($500 worth), there are those that still believe what we do is dangerous. We chose to set up our practice in Nova Scotia, a province with one of the lowest utilization rates of Chiropractic in the country. And with that meant that we would be pioneers like the Chiropractors that came before us. We will educate our community and our medical colleagues, we will provide the best healthcare possible, we will lead by example of what health can be, and we will be happy to do so and grateful for the opportunity.

Village Wellness recently celebrated its 4th Anniversary, and some of you have been with us for almost that long! We have seen families grow, children graduate, parents retire, marathons completed, weight loss achieved and health abound! You have supported us through our own wedding, two children, two moves and staff changes. We have made house calls and after hour visits, we’ve been your first call when your child is sick, when you “threw out” your back and when your son was born. It is our loyal patients that have allowed us to grow and without that support we couldn’t be here.

We want 2013 to be a phenomenal year for your health and your happiness. We want resolutions made to actually be kept. We want nagging issues of “aging” to be issues no more. We want this to be the year that you register for a half marathon, that you lose 20lbs, that you stop taking cholesterol medications, that you overcome a barrier and stop making excuses.

Chad and myself want you to know that we are always genuine in our recommendations, we actually do love seeing you and getting to know about your life and your family. We love Chiropractic and believe that it is always about more than just pain, it’s about being the best version of you possible! We’re just here to help unleash that person and help facilitate the life you dreamed of! Because that’s what Chiropractic does for us!

News and Articles : Welcome Baby Eli James

As most of you already know, Dr’s Chad and Megan welcomed their son Eli James on Dec.1st at 4:23am. This little guy was highly anticipated as he kept everyone waiting an extra 15 days but he was well worth it. Labour was short and Megan had a successful VBAC delivery free of any interventions. Eli was a surprising 10lbs 4oz and 22” long and completely healthy! He received his first adjustment from dad within hours to correct a latching problem while nursing and has been receiving regular check-ups and adjustments since!

Megan and Chad would like to extend a gracious thank you to their Doula Jen Hammond of Pampered Mama’s Doula Services for her amazing support and encouragement throughout the pregnancy and delivery; the IWK staff that was very respectful of their requests, the delivering MD’s from Crossroads Family Practice for their support of an intervention free VBAC delivery; and of course all our patients who had a great deal of patience while Megan has been away from the practice getting to know Eli. We hope you all get a chance to meet him over the next few months and we appreciate all of your inquiries as to how our family is doing. We are blessed to have the opportunity to get to know and care for so many of your families, that we love your interest in ours! Please remember the importance of Chiropractic for young babies and share that information with new parents that you know!

After more than two months away from practice following the birth of her second child, Dr. Megan is excited to return to Village Wellness. She will be offering adjusting times for her current patients only on Tuesday’s from 5pm-7pm and on Thursday from 9am-11am. Megan will only be accepting new patients as referred by her current patients (children, spouses, friends) for the next several months. You can expect a gradual increase in treating times as baby Eli grows. We appreciate your support, patience and loyalty during this precious time while Eli is so young.

Recently Sun Life Financial has announced the launch of their Nationwide eClaims Solution for extended healthcare, which allows registered practitioners to bill online directly on behalf of their patients (read more about it here).

Village Wellness is pleased to offer this service to our Chiropractic patients, however please note that Sun Life has not included Massage Therapy as part of the program. For a complete list of third party payers we are able to bill directly, please visit our clinic info page.
