Contemporary acupuncture is a safe, effective and painless treatment that uses fine needles to target and stimulate nerves that are transmitting pain. Acupuncture focuses on altering abnormal activity of the nervous system and its associated structures
Acupuncture treatments are designed to target “neuro-reactive” sites – specific points on the body corresponding to the nervous system. When stimulated with acupuncture needles, these sites induce physiological changes to the nervous system, which in turn affect other parts of the body that are activated by the nervous system. Various combinations of points are used depending on your specific condition the goals of your treatment. Your chiropractor will determine the best course of treatment for your body.
The number of acupuncture treatments will depend on your specific condition and the goal of treatment. More acute conditions will typically resolve within a few visits, while chronic conditions may take longer to fully recover. The effects of acupuncture are cumulative, meaning that over time less visits are required to achieve the desired results.
Typical treatments will range from 20 minutes to 60 minutes, depending on the nature of your condition.
At Village Wellness we charge $60 for each acupuncture treatment.
If your insurance coverage includes chiropractic, then contemporary acupuncture will be included under that designation also, since it is performed by certified chiropractors. Currently, the government of Nova Scotia does not cover any portion of chiropractic or acupuncture therapy.
